Nestled on Borrans Road in Waterhead, Ambleside, right next to the shores of Lake Windermere, Lakeside Picnic is more than just a café — it’s a little haven in the heart of the Lake District. Since opening in March 2015, we’ve been proud to offer a cozy spot where locals and visitors alike can unwind, enjoy stunning lakeside views, and indulge in some of Cumbria’s finest local treats.

We’re best known as a welcoming ice cream shop in Ambleside, serving up scoops of award-winning Luxury Lakes Ice Cream, made just down the road in Kendal. Using fresh, organic local milk and cream, our ice cream comes in delicious flavors like Thunder & Lightning, Kendal Mint Cake, Raspberry Pavlova, and Cartmel Sticky Toffee Pudding — many of which are gluten-free and free from artificial additives.

But Lakeside Picnic is more than just ice cream. We also serve freshly brewed coffee, light homemade bites, and a unique selection of Lake District-inspired gifts and local snacks — perfect if you’re looking for something special to take home. Whether you’re popping in during a walk by Lake Windermere, exploring Waterhead Pier, or looking for things to do in Ambleside, our little shop is a perfect pit stop.
